S.C. senators unanimously rejected on Tuesday Gov. Henry McMaster’s veto of $20 million in lottery money to replace roughly 200 buses prone to catching on fire.
McMaster has said the money should only fund scholarships.
Senate president Pro Tempore Hugh Leatherman praised the vote.
“Today, Senators took two votes that could well save children’s lives. That is a good feeling and a good day’s work,” the Florence Republican said in a statement. “I only wish that these much needed funds hadn’t been vetoed and the money would have been available six months ago.”
