South Carolina’s school bus fleet may soon get a $20 million update.
The state House on Tuesday rejected Gov. Henry McMaster’s veto—107-8—of funding to replace the aging buses, more than 20 of which have reportedly overheated or caught fire since 2015.
Of the more than 5,500 state-owned buses, half are at least 15 years old. Many are nearly 30 years old.
The Senate will likely take up the veto on Wednesday.
